What it contributes
A suitable controlled dye test can help assess a suspected waste or use-related water route. It is most useful when the relevant surfaces can be observed and the test conditions are clearly defined.
What it cannot establish alone
A dye result relates to the tested route and conditions. It is not a general test for all pressurised supply leaks.
The method is selected for the conditions at the property. More than one kind of observation may be needed, and the report should make clear which findings support the proposed next step.
Before the visit
Keep existing pipe drawings and earlier findings available. Describe any restrictions on isolation, access or normal system operation. You do not need to choose or prepare a specialist test yourself.
